Hello, good people of Rap Genius! It’s me, @BetterInTunechiWitTheCandyMan here with a new thread series called Lost Pioneers of Grime. Long story short, I’ll be going over MCs that faded out of the Grime scene due to various reasons that I will get into more deeply in the future threads. Without any more delay, let’s get into it!
Carl Dobson, better known as Crazy Titch, is a Grime MC from Plaistow, East London, currently serving a life sentence for the murder of a Grime producer called Richard Holmes. Previous to this Titch had already served 5 years for various offenses such as theft, burglary, handling of stolen goods, and criminal damage, and had a criminal record as long as his arm (Literally, he actually showed it and went through it on his DVD called Crazy Times Vol. 1, link to segment here).
This, among the things we never heard of in detail gave him a reputation in the scene as a volatile thug with little sense for the consequences of his actions. After getting released from prison in 2003, he turned his attention to music and soon afterwards formed a Grime crew called Boyz In Da Hood, which was comprised of him, his half-brother Durrty Goodz, at the time known as Durrty Doogz, and two other MCs Delta and DP, along with their DJ Flippy Smalls. The crew was unremarkable, with Delta and DP being vastly inferior to Titch and Doogz, and soon after the crew’s formation Titch turned his focus into his solo career, and a subcrew he had handpicked and molded into a crew called Kids In Da Hood, that consisted of Delusion, Darkboi, Vortex, and D Dark, all of whom were kind of trash. Just think of them as the UK Outlawz and you’ve basically got the gist of it. His first ever recorded tune was in 2003 with Doogz and Hyper https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X-Fi2Y2DBdI
It lacked the swagger and charisma he would reach in later tunes, but it was still a somewhat indicator of what was to come, in retrospect. I say in retrospect because it didn’t see release at the time, and was released to the internet at a much later date.
He embraced the thug persona fully with his delivery, which was angry shouting most of the time, and with lyrics that were deemed to be too violent for radio by multiple stations on multiple occasions, which hindered his exposure. He, regardless of this, found his way to multipleradiosets during his short career. He soon became respected as a capable clash MC, with wins in clashes versus oppodents such as Bruza, Wiley, and Dizzee Rascal going his way.
The most famous of his clashes is the only one that didn’t get finished though; In late Autumn 2003 on Deja Vu FM a radio set was being executed, with various MCs turning up to the set; Close to 40 minutes into the set Titch and Dizzee were set to clash, and https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5gJtEC8Z514 was the result. All of this, including the argument was broadcast to everyone currently tuned into Deja Vu, and the event soon became legendary amongst Grime heads.
This was the start of a longstanding feud between Dizzee and Titch that resulted in both of them exchanging diss tracks between each other. Titch also got involved in a feud with Wiley when his brother Doogz started beefing with him. The beef between Wiley and Doogz, however, was just inside the music; Titch in particular took clashes very personally, even though only the clash with Dizzee got heated to the point where physical violence was gonna happen if people didn’t stop them.
2004 saw the first commercial release by Titch with his first single I Can C U, that became quite sought out for, and a hit on Channel U, which was pretty much the MTV of UK at the time. https://genius.com/Crazy-titch-i-can-c-u-lyrics
It was one of the most requested videos at the time, which is why Titch’s next single Singalong did extremely well; Whereas others usually had to redo their videos atleast once or twice to get them on TV, he got in right off the bat just off of I Can C U’s success. This made Titch one of the most known, and successful Grime artists of his time; Even though no labels had approached him at this point, they most likely would’ve eventually, even if just off of the pure hype he had circulating around him.
He spent the rest of 2004 making dubs of various instrumentals such as Gunshot Riddim, Shank Riddim, Ice Rink, Icy Mountains, Scorpion etc etc. These dubs further showcased his freestyling ability, with him mixing in some of his most famous bars with freestyled bits for most of these dubs.

In 2005, he released a Grime documentary DVD called Crazy Times Vol. 1, that also served as a mixtape of 21 tracks. Out of these 21 tracks he actually spits on only the first 5, with the first two being his war dubs for Dizzee and the 3 rest being freestyles. Hindi notes of autocad in pdf free download. These tracks featured his gritty, street rhymes delivered with his trademark angry, hype delivery. The rest of the tracks were spread out amongst the members of Kids In Da Hood, with only one or two of them being worth the listen. On the DVD Titch demonstrated an another side of himself; He joked around on it a lot, with other MCs and got himself thrown off a plane with his antics, ran off from a cab driver who tried to rip him off among other things. These moments are some of the most known moments among Grime heads, and they embody Titch’s persona to a T.
Then in late 2005, the murder happened and he, along with his stepfather Anthony Green and Durrty Goodz got locked away for a year for their murder trial; In the end him and his stepfather were convicted to 30 years of murder. There are lots of theories going around about what really happened, with some of them suggesting that Titch is covering for Goodz, or that there was an another person present during the shooting who shot the Mac-10 instead of Titch. In any case, Titch is in prison now, and will be for a long time.
This still isn’t the end though. Around the summer of 2009 rumors started circulating of Titch releasing an another mixtape from prison. These were thought to be just that, rumours with no base until a new freestyle by Titch over a modern, popular instrumental surfaced on Kiss FM; Soon release dates were set for late summer 2010, and there the tape was. It showed that Titch really hadn’t changed a bit; He still had his flow, he still had his bars, he was just in prison now.
He got sent down to a high security prison for 2 years after the mixtape surfaced but he had already achieved all he wanted with that. This is most likely the real end of his career, considering how no further tunes or verses have surfaced, except for some bars here and there which he spit over the phone for his brother to put on his tunes. His story, all in all, is a sad one; He was very close to making it but fucked it all up by getting involved in beef his brother had.
